A large and impressive oak stationery box in fabulous original condition and incorporating a separate writing slope, complete with working lock and key.

The slope itself has an original leather skiver with opening compartment revealing a letter holder. This folds and slides into the base of the box. Above this is a shelf for the oak tubular ruler, two inkwells and a covered pen holder. To one side of the cover is a removable ceramic writing surface, to the other is a further note holder. Several pigeonholes for letters lead up to the perpetual calendar at the top which folds up and down when the box is closed.

In beautiful condition with presentation plaque carrying the inscription "Presented to Mr Edmund Bentley for Services Rendered in Connection with the Trades Union Congress in Birmingham 1897"
